Psychologist and author Dr. Kirsten Viola Harrison bridges the worlds of psychology, soul healing, and social justice with one goal: to humanize mental illness and empower those who’ve lived at society’s margins.

For over 35 years, she has helped individuals navigate profound psychological and spiritual transitions — including those living with complex PTSD (C-PTSD), dissociative identity disorder, (DID), and schizophrenia. Her dissertation explored how near-death experiences can serve as spiritual breakthroughs. As founder of Soul Wise Solutions, her integrative approach blends clinical expertise with compassionate soul work to support true, lasting healing.

Dr. Harrison’s new book, “I, Sean/a: The Story of a Homeless Intersex Woman Who Inspired a Community” (March 2025), tells the raw and riveting story of an intersex woman who overcame homelessness, mental illness, and stigma to become an advocate for intersex rights and human dignity. Together, they created Shelter for Shauna, an educational and advocacy platform calling for an end to non-consensual intersex surgeries and offering a new lens on what it means to thrive despite diagnosis or difference.

Now, she’s bringing her expertise to the public stage, speaking out through seminars, talks, podcasts, and consulting on complex trauma, identity fluidity, and what true inclusion looks like.

From her decades of experience helping individuals and groups process acute and complex trauma, Dr. Harrison shares practical, evidence-based strategies for coping and finding resilience in the aftermath of traumatic events. As a doctor, mother, humanitarian, and bold voice for the soul’s resilience, she proves that healing isn’t about fixing what’s broken, but revealing what’s possible.
